Beginning November 18, 2021, electrical contractors will begin the Village Streetlight LED Lamp conversion. Work will begin on the east/west streets then proceed to the north/south streets in the Village. It is expected to take an estimated 2 months to complete all of this changeover work. Please reduce your speed and be careful around this and all roadway work zones.
In October, the Village Board approved switching approximately 1,500 High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamp streetlights to LED lamp streetlights of a comparable color and brightness.
Based on community feedback, the Board chose to use utilize the 20 watt 2700K LED lamps on residential roadways and 30 watt 2700K LED lamps on collector roadways.
LED lighting is much more cost efficient and will have both economic and environmental benefits for our community. Those benefits include:
▪ Through an estimated 70% power use reduction, a savings of over $1,200,000 million dollars in utility costs over 20 years could be realized as compared to our current HPS lamp streetlights.
▪ LED lamp fixtures will yield reduced maintenance and repair costs because LED lamps burn out or fail much less frequently as compared to HPS lamps.
▪ Reduced energy consumption and carbon footprint which supports the Action Item 1 from the Triple Bottom Line, Resilience, Culture Section of the 2019 Comprehensive Plan. This Action Item specified that the Village “Improve energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption by considering efficiency standards…and monitoring Village buildings for energy efficiency and making needed changes as soon as possible.”
